His parents met in 1960 while attending the University of Hawaii at Mānoa, where his father was a foreign student. The couple married on February 2, 1961, but were separated when Obama was only two years old. Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University as well as Harvard Law School. At Harvard he became the first African American president of Harvard Law Review. Mr. Obama was a community organizer and civil rights attorney in the great city of Chicago before he was elected to the Senate in Illinois in 1997. On February 10, 2007, Barack Hussein Obama announced his candidacy for President of the United States in front of the Old State Capitol building in Springfield, Illinois. After a long and grueling campaign against Senator John McCain, on November 4th 2008 he was elected to become the 44th President of The United States.
